What happens on ‘Stay Safe’ dual carriageway courses?

You will be under Alan’s expert guidance from the start - he can meet you anywhere within Yeovil. On the way to the dual carriageway you will have a chance to 'warm-up' on normal roads familiar to you and discuss any aspects of concern. Once you feel comfortable you will join the dual carriageway under the appropriate level of instruction. By the end of your course you will have a greater understanding of the elements of faster road driving to keep you safe and give you confidence.

Where will we be driving?

Our 2 hour Stay Safe Motorway Course will take you on the A303 – if you have a particular journey in mind, that will form the basis of our dual carriageway training.

Will I gain confidence?

We will show you how to forward plan, what to look for and where – this will give you greater confidence on faster roads.

What lane do I need to be in?

We will be working on lane discipline from the start, how to look well ahead, what the different lane signs mean and how to spot the clues that will tell you what’s coming up.

What about emergencies?

You’ll be guided on how to react in an emergency situation, what to do in the event of a breakdown and how to deal with your passengers

Who designed the
dual carriageway syllabus?

The syllabus is written by the DVSA which is part of The Department of Transport. The DVSA are responsible for setting, testing and enforcing driver and vehicle standards.

Smart Motorways

Smart motorways are being gradually phased in to more and more sections of our motorway network. There aren’t any Smart Motorways nearby so Alan will help and guide you through Smart Motorways in theory.

Can we use my car for the course?

We highly recommend taking the course in
your car, this means you are in a familiar environment and can concentrate on where
you are going and what you are doing
– this is a tremendous aid to learning.
